“What was I thinking?” are my favorite words
With each new project that comes along
I sit and stew in a self-confidence crisis
And ponder the litany of things that can go wrong
It’s normal to have a moment of panic
When a flash of self-doubt flies into our brain
Our hearts are beating so fast and furious
The fear as loud as a speeding train
But then an amazing thing happens
We sit down and start what we said we would do
Our memory reminds us of what we have done in the past
And gives us the tools to see us through
We feel the excitement of a job well done
We can visualize the satisfaction
We promise ourselves a well-deserved reward
For not giving into the fear and distraction
“What was I thinking?” takes on a positive tone
Looking back, we realize it was silly to fret
When we allow the mind to play tricks on our heart
Our own insecurity become our biggest threat
We will always experience a twinge of self-doubt
We need it at times; it becomes our motivation
It inspires us to go the extra distance
And it raises the bar and our expectation
