The world can be a cold and harsh place
At times, it can be too much to bear
When spite, avarice and hatred become the norm
It’s hard to find a soul willing to care
Look to our own has become a theme
So easy to block out the world outside
Why tend to strangers when we have our own problems?
Why shed a tear when our own needs are pushed aside?
If we can put out the fire of our anger
If we can extinguish the resentment that arises from our fears
We can see past our own lives and into the pain of others
And we can find comfort in drying another’s tears
So simple a formula it is to change the world
A gentle hand erases the ache of isolation
A healing touch allows trust to breathe again in our lives
And hope replaces the sorrow that is born of desperation
